Subtitle Cleaner

Remove cue numbers, timestamps, WebVTT metadata, duplicate lines, and optional formatting tags from subtitle text. Keep line breaks or merge everything into a clean paragraph.

Browser-local No signup required Text

Turn SRT- or VTT-style subtitle text into a cleaner transcript by removing timing metadata, cue numbers, common subtitle blocks, and optionally inline formatting tags. The result can stay line-separated or be merged into one paragraph.

How to clean subtitle text

  1. Paste subtitle text into the input box.
  2. Choose whether formatting tags should be removed.
  3. Choose whether cleaned lines should be merged into one paragraph.
  4. Press Clean.
  5. Copy the resulting transcript.

What gets removed or normalized

The cleaner removes a leading BOM, WEBVTT, numeric cue indexes, recognized SRT/VTT timing lines, Kind/Language metadata, and NOTE, STYLE, or REGION blocks. Consecutive duplicate cleaned lines are collapsed.

With tag removal enabled, angle-bracket tags and ASS-style override blocks such as {\...} are removed. A small set of HTML entities including  , &, <, and > is decoded.

Privacy and limitations

Cleaning happens locally in the browser and subtitle text is not intentionally uploaded. The parser is heuristic rather than a full subtitle-format engine, so unusual cue syntax, custom metadata, or text that happens to resemble a timing line can be treated differently from specialized subtitle software.
