SRT ↔ VTT Converter

Convert SRT subtitles to WebVTT or WebVTT cues back to numbered SRT blocks. Timestamps and cue text are processed entirely in the browser without uploading subtitle content.

Browser-local No signup required Developer

Convert subtitle text between SRT and WebVTT timing syntax in the browser. SRT-to-VTT changes millisecond commas to dots and adds a WEBVTT header, while VTT-to-SRT rebuilds numbered SRT cues from recognized VTT cue blocks.

How to convert SRT and VTT

  1. Choose SRT to VTT or VTT to SRT.
  2. Paste the subtitle text.
  3. Press Convert.
  4. Review the generated subtitle text.
  5. Copy the output when the timing structure is correct.

Timing and cue handling

SRT input must contain recognized timing lines with hours, minutes, seconds, and comma milliseconds. Conversion adds WEBVTT and changes time separators from comma to dot.

For VTT to SRT, the WEBVTT header is removed, blocks containing timing lines are kept as cues, cue numbers are regenerated from 1, and two-part times such as mm:ss.mmm receive a 00: hour prefix. Extra VTT timing settings after the end time are accepted but not preserved in SRT output.

Privacy and limitations

Conversion is performed locally in the browser and subtitle text is not intentionally uploaded. This tool converts common cue timing structures; it does not fully preserve all WebVTT metadata, styling, NOTE blocks, cue identifiers, regions, or advanced settings.

Frequently asked questions

Does SRT to VTT add the WEBVTT header?

Yes. The output begins with WEBVTT followed by a blank line.

Are SRT cue numbers removed in VTT output?

No. The current SRT-to-VTT path mainly changes timing punctuation and adds the header, so existing cue numbers remain.

Are SRT numbers regenerated when converting from VTT?

Yes. Output cues are numbered sequentially from 1.

Can VTT times omit the hour field?

Yes. Recognized mm:ss.mmm times are converted to SRT with a 00: hour prefix.

Are advanced VTT cue settings preserved?

No. Settings after the end time are not carried into the generated SRT timing line.
