CSV to Markdown Table

Paste CSV content and get a clean Markdown table you can drop straight into README files, wikis, or docs. Handles quoted fields, custom delimiters, and auto-aligns columns. Runs entirely in your browser.

Browser-local No signup required Text

Convert comma-separated CSV text into a Markdown table. The first parsed row becomes the Markdown header and the remaining rows become table body rows.

How to convert CSV to a Markdown table

  1. Paste comma-separated CSV text into the input box.
  2. Click Convert or wait for the automatic conversion after editing.
  3. Review the Markdown header, separator row, and body rows.
  4. Check any cells that contain Markdown-sensitive characters.
  5. Copy the generated Markdown when ready.

Markdown table generation details

The converter always parses input with a comma delimiter and treats the first parsed row as the header. It inserts a Markdown separator row made of --- for each header column.

Pipe characters in body cells are escaped as \|. The current implementation does not separately escape pipe characters in header cells, so headers containing | may need manual adjustment before use.

Privacy and limitations

Conversion runs locally in the browser and the CSV text is not intentionally uploaded. This tool is designed for comma-separated input only; it does not offer delimiter selection, alignment syntax, Markdown rendering, or validation against every Markdown flavor.

Frequently asked questions

Does the first row become the Markdown header?

Yes. The first parsed CSV row is always used as the header row.

Can I convert tab-separated text?

Not with the current implementation. Input is parsed using commas only.

Are pipes inside body cells escaped?

Yes. A body-cell pipe is written as \| in the generated Markdown.

Are pipes inside header cells escaped too?

No. Header values are joined directly, so a header containing | may need manual editing.

Does the tool render a preview?

No. It outputs Markdown table text for you to copy and use elsewhere.
