Random List Picker
Paste a list of items (one per line) and randomly select N of them. Option to allow or forbid duplicates. Uses crypto.getRandomValues() for unbiased selection. Perfect for giveaways, team rotation, or random assignments. Runs in your browser.
Pick one or more random non-empty lines from a pasted list directly in the browser. You can allow repeated picks or require each result to be unique within the current draw.
How to pick random items from a list
- Paste one item per line.
- Choose how many results you want.
- Enable duplicates only if the same source item may be picked more than once.
- Press Pick and review the selected lines.
- Copy the result if needed.
Random selection behavior
Input lines are trimmed and empty lines are discarded before selection. The tool uses crypto.getRandomValues() to choose indexes from the current pool.
When duplicates are disabled, each selected item is removed from the temporary pool, so one source line cannot be selected twice in the same draw. If the requested count exceeds the available lines, the tool shows an error.
Privacy and limitations
Selection is performed locally in the browser and list contents are not intentionally uploaded for processing. The random index uses a modulo operation on a 32-bit random value, which is suitable for ordinary list picking but is not presented as a cryptographic lottery or regulated drawing system.
Frequently asked questions
Are blank lines included?
No. Lines are trimmed and empty lines are removed before picking.
Can the same item appear twice?
Yes, but only when the Allow duplicates option is enabled.
What happens if I request too many unique items?
The tool rejects the request when duplicates are disabled and the count is larger than the number of available lines.
Does it use Math.random()?
No. The current implementation uses crypto.getRandomValues().
Does it reorder my original list?
No. It copies the list into a temporary pool for the draw.
