URL Parser

Paste any URL and see all its components broken out — protocol, hostname, port, path, query string, and fragment. Copy any individual part. Uses the browser's native URL API. Nothing leaves your browser.

Break a URL into common browser URL fields including href, protocol, host, hostname, port, pathname, search, hash, and origin. If you omit a scheme, the parser automatically tries the input as an HTTPS URL.

How to parse a URL

  1. Enter a URL or hostname into the input field.
  2. If no :// sequence is present, the tool tries the input with https:// added.
  3. Review the parsed URL fields displayed below the input.
  4. Use the copy button beside any non-empty field to copy that value.

How the URL parser interprets input

The tool relies on the browser URL constructor. Inputs containing :// are passed directly to new URL, while inputs without that sequence are prefixed with https:// before parsing.

The displayed fields come directly from the resulting URL object: href, protocol, host, hostname, port, pathname, search, hash, and origin. Empty fields are shown as empty rather than invented or inferred values.

Privacy and limitations

The URL is parsed locally in the browser and the tool does not intentionally navigate to or fetch the entered address. Automatic https:// prefixing is a convenience rule, not proof that the destination exists, is reachable, or is safe.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to type https://?

No. If the input has no :// sequence, the tool tries it with https://.

Does this check whether a website exists?

No. It only parses URL syntax.

What is the difference between host and hostname?

The host can include a port, while hostname contains the hostname without the port.

Can it show query parameters?

It shows the complete search field. Use the Query String tool when you want key/value parsing.

Does entering a URL visit that website?

No. The parser does not intentionally fetch or navigate to the URL.
