Stop-Loss Distance Calculator
Enter an entry price and a stop price to calculate the absolute price distance and percentage distance from entry. The tool does not recommend a stop-loss level and does not use live market data.
Use the Stop-Loss Distance Calculator to measure how far a stop price sits from an entry price. Enter two prices in the same currency and the tool shows the absolute price distance, the percentage distance relative to entry, and whether the stop is above or below the entry. It works as country-neutral price arithmetic for stocks, ETFs, futures, crypto, or other quoted assets. It does not choose or recommend a stop level.
How to use the stop-loss distance calculator
- Enter the entry price you want to use as the reference point.
- Enter the stop price you have already chosen for comparison.
- Keep both values in the same currency and price unit.
- Review the absolute price distance, percentage distance from entry, and whether the stop is above or below entry.
How stop-loss distance is calculated
Price distance is the absolute value of stop price minus entry price. If entry is 100 and stop is 95, the distance is 5.
Percentage distance is distance divided by entry price times 100. In the 100 to 95 example, the distance is 5%.
A stop above entry is handled with the same absolute-distance formula. For example, entry 100 and stop 105 also produces a distance of 5 and 5%.
The calculation measures only the distance between two entered prices. It does not include position size, fees, taxes, spreads, slippage, gaps, leverage, financing, or actual execution prices.
Privacy, scope, and investment notice
All values are processed locally in your browser. The calculator does not use live market data and does not know whether a stop is suitable for your strategy, volatility, time horizon, or risk tolerance. It only measures the price you entered. Real losses can exceed a displayed stop distance because orders may fill at different prices during gaps, fast markets, low liquidity, or other execution conditions. This tool is not investment advice or a stop-loss recommendation.
Stop-loss distance calculator FAQ
Does this calculator tell me where to place a stop?
No. You choose the stop price. The tool only measures its distance from entry.
Can I use it for a short position?
Yes. A stop above entry is measured with the same absolute-distance formula.
Why is the percentage based on entry price?
Entry is the reference value, so the distance is divided by entry to express the move as a percentage of that starting price.
Can the stop be above the entry price?
Yes. The tool reports that position and still shows the absolute distance.
Can entry and stop be equal?
No. A zero-distance stop is rejected because there is no distance to measure.
Does it include trading fees or taxes?
No. Those are excluded and vary by broker, market, and jurisdiction.
Does it include slippage or gaps?
No. Real execution may differ from the stop price, especially during gaps or fast markets.
Can I use different currencies for entry and stop?
No. Use the same currency and price unit for both values.
Are my prices sent to a server?
No. The calculation runs locally in your browser.
