File Hash Checker
Drop or select any file (up to 500 MB) to compute its SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 checksums entirely in your browser. Paste a known hash to verify a download. No file is uploaded anywhere.
Compute a SHA-1, SHA-256, or SHA-512 digest for a selected file directly in the browser and copy the resulting hexadecimal hash alongside basic file information.
How to calculate a file hash
- Choose a local file and select SHA-1, SHA-256, or SHA-512.
- Run the calculation and wait for the browser to digest the file.
- Copy the hexadecimal digest or the displayed file metadata for comparison.
What the checker does
The implementation reads the selected file into memory and uses the browser Web Crypto digest API. Files larger than 500 MB are rejected by the tool.
A matching cryptographic hash is useful for byte-for-byte comparison, but the tool does not establish who published the expected hash or whether a file is trustworthy.
Privacy and limitations
The selected file is read locally by your browser and is not uploaded by this tool. Hashing large files can use substantial memory because the implementation reads the file into an ArrayBuffer.
File Hash Checker FAQ
Which algorithms are available?
SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512.
What is the file-size limit?
The tool rejects files larger than 500 MB.
Can I verify a published checksum?
You can calculate the local digest and compare it manually.
Does a matching hash prove a file is safe?
No. It only shows that the compared bytes produce the same digest.
Is the file uploaded?
No. The calculation is browser-local.
